Sberbank clients can now pay for purchases in Egypt using QR codes via the SberBank Online mobile application. The transaction amount is automatically converted into Russian rubles at the time of payment.
To use the service, customers must have the SberBank Online app version 16.10 or higher for Android, or version 17.0 or higher for iOS, released from June 2025 onwards.
Egypt is the 14th country to support Sberbank QR payments. The service is also available in other popular destinations for Russian tourists, including Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines.
The expansion of QR payment infrastructure in Egypt is supported by the local central bank, which reported approximately 1 million payment acceptance points as of the end of March 2026.
The launch follows a rise in tourism from Russia. In 2025, Egypt hosted over 2 million Russian visitors, with a 23% increase in arrivals recorded between January and September 25, 2026.
