US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated on September 14 that the Saudi Arabian East-West pipeline, also known as Petroline, is expected to resume operations within days. The 1,200-kilometer infrastructure was shut down following a drone attack on pumping stations around September 10–11.
The pipeline connects Persian Gulf oil fields to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, allowing exports to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. Before the shutdown, flow estimates ranged between 2.6 million and 5 million barrels per day, while the maximum design capacity is 7 million barrels per day.
While partial operations may restart quickly, full repairs could take several weeks. In April 2026, a previous attack reduced output by 700,000 barrels per day, with full capacity restored within days. Market participants are currently monitoring the speed and rate of the upcoming restart.
