A wallet containing 100.02 Bitcoin, mined in July 2010 during the Satoshi era, has initiated its first transaction in 16 years. The assets, valued at approximately $8.3 million at the time of the transfer, were moved on Wednesday. The transaction was processed in block 970,379 at 18:52 UTC.
The funds were split into two new addresses, with 10 BTC sent to one and 90.02 BTC to the other. Both destination addresses utilize the modern bc1q format. The owner paid a transaction fee of 1,467 satoshis, equivalent to roughly $1.22. The coins originated from two separate blocks mined on July 26 and July 28, 2010.
While the address itself had recorded activity in 2015, 2017, and 2018 involving other assets, the specific 100.02 BTC remained untouched since 2010. Blockchain analytics confirm that these coins were moved for the first time since their inception. As of Thursday, the funds remain in the new wallets with no further outgoing transactions.
This movement follows a trend of dormant Satoshi-era assets becoming active. In February 2025, a 50 BTC batch moved after 15 years, and in August, 49.97 BTC from 2011 were transferred to a wallet associated with FalconX. Additionally, six wallets dormant since 2011–2014 recently moved 553.59 BTC, valued at approximately $40 million.
