Sapphire has released a critical vBIOS security update for its entire lineup of AMD Radeon RX 7000 series desktop graphics cards. The update addresses a specific security vulnerability identified in collaboration with AMD, marking a rare instance of firmware patching for consumer GPUs.
The update is compatible with a wide range of Sapphire models, including the Radeon RX 7600, RX 7600 XT, RX 7650 GRE, RX 7700 XT, RX 7800 XT, RX 7900 GRE, RX 7900 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. This covers the complete RDNA 3 desktop product stack from the manufacturer.
To install the firmware, users must have the AMD Adrenalin Edition driver installed. The process requires approximately 15–20 minutes to complete. Sapphire provides specific download links for each GPU model, and the update tool requires administrative privileges to run.
The AMD Radeon Firmware Updater tool automatically detects the GPU and manages the installation process. For the RX 7000 series, the tool executes twice: once in standard mode and once in safe mode. A system reboot is required to finalize the update.
