Market intelligence platform Santiment reports that open interest in cryptocurrency derivatives has reached $41.6 billion for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana combined. This growth coincides with a recovery in asset prices, signaling increased trader participation and a higher demand for leveraged positions.

Bitcoin accounts for $23.4 billion of the total open interest. While this figure is rising, it remains below the $25.84 billion level recorded by the platform in September 2026 and is still trailing the highs observed in the spring.

Ethereum shows the most consistent growth, with open interest reaching $15.5 billion. Santiment notes that the asset has seen a sustained increase since August. Meanwhile, Solana accounts for $2.7 billion, characterized by higher volatility compared to the other two assets.

Santiment warns that the current trend carries risks of cascading liquidations if market prices reverse. Because traders use leverage to control larger positions with limited collateral, a significant price drop could trigger automatic forced sales, potentially accelerating further declines.
