Starting in the last week of October, Samsung Wallet will enable USDC transfers for 82 million eligible Galaxy devices in the US. The service allows users to send stablecoins internationally without needing a separate cryptocurrency application.
The infrastructure is managed by Bastion, a licensed custodian backed by Andreessen Horowitz and Coinbase Ventures. Bastion holds a New York trust charter and utilizes Coinbase Prime Vault as a sub-custodian for storing the assets.
Transfers will be processed on the Solana and Sui networks. Users can send USDC to external crypto wallets without incurring Samsung fees or transfer funds to bank accounts in more than 60 countries, where recipients receive local currency.
Samsung clarified that the 82 million figure represents the number of compatible devices rather than active users. The company also noted that identity verification is mandatory for all participants using the new feature.
While the service focuses on international transfers, Samsung stated that tap-to-pay functionality in physical stores is not currently supported. The company previously denied partnership claims regarding Open USD in July.
