Samsung Electronics is undergoing a major restructuring of its System LSI division to improve profitability. The company has decided to exit the automotive processor market, specifically discontinuing its Exynos Auto line to reallocate resources toward mobile system-on-chips and image sensors.

The Exynos Auto business was launched in 2018, targeting multimedia and smart vehicle systems. Samsung secured supply contracts with Hyundai in 2023 and BMW in 2025. The company plans to fulfill these existing obligations before ceasing development and production of future generations.

Industry estimates suggest that developing a single automotive chip costs over ₩100 billion, while the unit cost remains between $20 and $40. Samsung aims to stabilize its financial performance following significant losses within its System LSI and Foundry divisions.
