Samsung is reportedly setting ambitious design targets for its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold9 foldable smartphone. According to industry leaks, the company aims to achieve a thickness of 3.9 mm when unfolded and 7.9 mm when folded. These specifications are intended to enhance the device's competitive position against the Apple iPhone Duo.

For comparison, the current Galaxy Z Fold8 model measures 9.7 mm in thickness when folded and 4.5 mm when unfolded, excluding the camera bump. If the new targets are met, the Z Fold9 would be 1.8 mm thinner than its predecessor in its folded state. The iPhone Duo currently measures 11.3 mm folded and 5.2 mm unfolded.

The leak also suggests that Samsung is considering integrating an under-display camera for the internal screen of the Galaxy Z Fold9. While the source indicates this feature may have been confirmed, no specific technical configurations or details regarding mass production have been disclosed at this time.
