Samsung has proposed a price of $4 per Gb for its HBM4 memory chips scheduled for delivery in 2027. This figure is more than triple the current price of HBM3E, which stands at approximately $1.50 per Gb. The company aims to leverage the performance capabilities of its new generation memory to challenge SK Hynix's market dominance.
The technical specifications for Samsung's HBM4 include a stable data transfer rate of 11.7 Gbps, with peak speeds reaching 13 Gbps. Samsung intends to use these performance metrics to justify a price premium during ongoing contract negotiations for next year's supply. The final transaction prices remain subject to further discussions with clients.
HBM products are typically supplied through long-term annual agreements where volumes and prices are negotiated in advance. As AI accelerators demand higher performance, the market focus is shifting toward transfer speeds and power efficiency. Samsung is currently working to secure its position within the supply chains of major industry players.
Market research firm TrendForce projects that the average selling price of HBM will increase by 121% by 2027, driven by the adoption of HBM4 and persistent supply shortages. Micron has also indicated in recent financial reports that HBM prices are expected to rise significantly next year as the product mix shifts toward more expensive, high-performance generations.
