Samsung Electronics is significantly reducing its production of quantum dot LCD televisions. While the company manufactured approximately 10 million QD-based models last year, the output for 2026 is expected to drop to 2–3 million units, representing a decline of roughly 80 percent.

Despite this shift, the company's total annual television production volume remains stable at nearly 40 million units. Samsung has already replaced its entry-level QLED series with Mini LED models that do not incorporate quantum dot layers.

Industry reports indicate that Samsung intends to cut Neo QLED production by half in 2027. A complete phase-out of LCD televisions featuring quantum dots is under consideration for 2028, as the firm pivots toward Mini LED and future RGB Mini LED panel technologies.

The strategic shift follows increased competition from Chinese manufacturers such as TCL and Hisense, which have expanded their range of affordable QD televisions. This market saturation has diminished the status of quantum dots as an exclusive feature for premium devices.
