Samsung plans to reduce the production of QLED televisions by approximately 80% by the end of 2026. The company expects to manufacture between 2 million and 3 million QLED units in 2026, compared to 10 million units produced in 2025.
The manufacturer is shifting its focus toward Mini LED technology. While Neo QLED models, which combine quantum dots and Mini LED, remain in the lineup, reports suggest production of these units may be significantly reduced in 2027 and discontinued by 2028.
The strategic shift is driven by competitive pressure from Chinese brands like Hisense and TCL, which offer lower-priced QLED alternatives. Additionally, Samsung is exploring other display technologies, including Micro RGB and OLED, for its premium television segments.
Legal and reputational challenges persist in the sector. In September 2026, TCL filed a lawsuit against Samsung alleging false advertising regarding Mini LED technology. Previously, in the spring of 2025, both companies faced scrutiny over the use of phosphorus instead of quantum dots in products marketed as QLED.
