Samsung expects the launch of Apple's first foldable smartphone to boost demand for its own foldable devices. According to the company, the number of users switching from iOS to the Galaxy Z Fold8 series, released in July, was 1.6 times higher than for the previous Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7 models.
Counterpoint Research forecasts that Samsung will maintain a 38 percent share of the foldable smartphone market this year. Apple is expected to capture 25 percent of the market upon its debut. In the US, approximately 30 percent of Galaxy Z Flip8 buyers transitioned from competing brands, with most purchasing a foldable device for the first time.
Galaxy Z Fold8 customers cited the thin design, light weight, and the internal display's multitasking capabilities as key purchase drivers. Galaxy Fold8 Ultra users highlighted the large workspace provided by the flexible screen as a tablet replacement. Samsung also updated the Galaxy Switch app to allow data migration via QR code without requiring app installation on an iPhone.
