Samsung has initiated the development of the Galaxy Z TriFold 2, the successor to its triple-folding smartphone. According to industry reports, the company aims to maintain the starting price at $2899, although rising component costs may impact this strategy.
The new model focuses on three key improvements: reducing the device thickness, decreasing overall weight, and enhancing structural durability. The current generation measures 12.9 mm in thickness and weighs 309 grams, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is 8.9 mm thick and weighs 215 grams.
The market launch for the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 is expected in 2027. Alongside this release, Samsung may introduce a new rollable smartphone model. This device is anticipated to feature a 10-inch display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of 440.6 ppi.
Samsung has previously showcased flexible display technologies, including the Flex Hybrid panel at CES 2023 and the 12.4-inch Rollable Flex panel at SID 2023. The latter can extend from 49 mm to 254.4 mm, demonstrating the company's ongoing research into non-hinged screen expansion.
