Samsung Electronics has initiated quality certification tests for Micron’s 1γ LPDDR5X memory. The company intends to integrate this hardware into its upcoming Galaxy S27 smartphone series, which is scheduled for release in the first half of next year.
While industry discussions previously considered using the 1γ memory for the Galaxy S26 line, Samsung opted to delay implementation due to pricing concerns. The Galaxy S26 series currently utilizes a mix of Micron’s 1β LPDDR5X and memory produced by Samsung’s own DS division.
Micron has already moved its 1γ-based 16Gb LPDDR5X into mass production for other smartphone manufacturers and is currently sampling 24Gb versions. Samsung’s adoption of this technology is considered relatively late compared to other market players.
Samsung and Micron are currently engaged in price negotiations for DRAM supplies for Galaxy devices in the fourth quarter. Sources indicate that Micron’s initial pricing proposals are expected to be approximately 50% higher than the costs associated with Samsung’s internal DS division production.
The ongoing negotiations are described as complex due to the significant price gap between the two parties. Both companies aim to conclude these discussions before the Mid-Autumn Festival, though no specific agreements have been reached yet.
