Samsung Electronics DX division head and co-CEO Roh Tae-moon will hold a company-wide meeting next month to address employee concerns. The session will involve the DX division, which oversees smartphones, televisions, and home appliances. Management intends to discuss current business operations and respond to staff inquiries directly.
The primary source of employee dissatisfaction is the performance bonus gap between the DX division and the Device Solutions (DS) division. The 'Donghaeng' labor union has organized protests, including demonstrations at the residence of Chairman Lee Jae-yong, to demand pay equity. Union members argue that the DX division was marginalized in the May wage agreement.
The union has presented several demands to address the compensation disparity. These include the issuance of 1,000 company shares to each DX division employee, the creation of a unified profit-sharing pool, and standardized base salary increases across the entire company. The union attributes recent profit declines to management errors.
Samsung maintains that bonus structures for the DS and DX divisions are calculated independently. The company stated that it aims to overcome financial pressure caused by fluctuating memory chip prices by focusing on technological competitiveness. Management previously announced the upcoming meeting during a private briefing for department heads.
