Samsung Electronics has begun development of its first AI glasses equipped with a display. The device is designed to provide audio and project color visual information directly onto the lenses, similar to Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses. Samsung Display is currently tasked with developing micro-displays for the project, evaluating both OLEDoS and LEDoS panel technologies.

The hardware will feature ultra-compact micro-displays under 0.2 inches, integrated into the frames. The system uses a near-eye optical setup to project text, notifications, and navigation icons. Samsung is currently testing both binocular and monocular architectures, prioritizing low power consumption and high readability over high-resolution image quality.

The company has opted for a 4-bit grayscale scheme to ensure clear UI symbols and minimal energy usage. The glasses are intended to function as a peripheral accessory for smartphones, relying on the phone for core processing. Industry sources suggest that white OLEDoS is the most likely technology to be adopted due to cost and yield concerns.

The launch of these display-equipped glasses is currently projected for the second half of 2027 or the first half of 2028. Meanwhile, Samsung is preparing to release a separate, display-less AI glasses model later this year. That device, developed in collaboration with Google, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker, focuses primarily on camera functionality and voice interaction.
