Saleen has officially opened order books for the S1 Street sports car in the US, nearly ten years after its initial debut. The vehicle, which first appeared at the 2017 Los Angeles auto show, is now available for reservation with a fully refundable deposit of $1,000. The base price for the road-legal model starts at $160,000.
The manufacturer also offers a track-only version, the S1 Race, priced from $250,000 with a refundable deposit of $2,000. Both variants share a curb weight of 2,685 pounds. Production for both models will take place at the company's facility in Corona, California, with an ambitious target of 1,500 units for the first year of production.
The S1 Street features a 450-horsepower engine delivering 425 pound-feet of torque. It reaches 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 171 mph. The S1 Race variant improves performance, achieving a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph. Saleen has not yet provided a confirmed delivery timeline for customers.
The company has not disclosed specific mechanical differences between the two versions or clarified if the 1,500-unit production goal covers both models combined. Saleen continues to manage other automotive projects while seeking additional external funding to support its ongoing vehicle development programs.
