S&P Global has entered into an agreement to acquire OpenZeppelin, a company specializing in blockchain security. The deal aims to enhance the buyer's existing capabilities in risk assessment and ecosystem development within the digital asset sector.

OpenZeppelin was founded in 2015 and focuses on developing open-source smart contract software and conducting security audits. According to the company, its smart contracts have supported over $37 trillion in value transfers, and it has completed more than 900 security engagements.

The acquired platform will function as a distinct business unit under S&P Global. CEO Demian Brener will retain his leadership position, reporting to Yann Le Pallec, the president of S&P Global Ratings. OpenZeppelin's open-source libraries will continue to be available for free on GitHub.

This acquisition follows S&P Global's recent strategic investment in the Paris-based crypto data provider Kaiko. That investment contributed to a total Series B funding round of $110 million for Kaiko, supporting its infrastructure for tokenized financial markets.
