Trading volume on decentralized exchanges (DEX) for perpetual futures tied to real-world assets (RWA) reached $365 billion in the third quarter of 2026. This figure represents a 32% increase compared to the $203 billion recorded in the second quarter, according to CryptoRank data released on September 24.
Perpetual contracts linked to public equities were the primary driver of this activity, accounting for $175 billion, or approximately 48% of the total RWA perpetual volume. The remaining volume was distributed across commodities, foreign exchange pairs, and other tokenized traditional assets.
The growth is largely attributed to the HIP-3 framework from Hyperliquid, which improved liquidity provisioning and asset listings. While quarterly figures show significant expansion, data for August and September indicated a month-to-month decline in trading volume within the third quarter.
Perpetual futures allow for price tracking without requiring custody of underlying assets, with settlement occurring via stablecoins or crypto collateral. By mid-2026, cumulative RWA trading volumes across centralized and decentralized platforms had exceeded the trillion-dollar mark.
