The Russian market for local S3 object storage has emerged as a distinct segment over the past three years. According to K2Tech, businesses are increasingly adopting S3 as a foundation for corporate data, backups, and data platforms. The segment is projected to grow by more than 20% annually.
Public procurement data indicates a significant rise in demand. In 2023, there were 20 tenders with a total maximum contract price of 294.8 ₽ million. By 2025, the number of tenders increased to 56, with a total value of 1.91 ₽ billion. In the first half of 2026, 26 procedures were recorded, totaling 798.8 ₽ million.
K2Tech analysts estimate that public tenders account for approximately 40% of the total market, with the remainder consisting of private and closed-door corporate procurement. Companies are shifting their focus from simple import substitution to specific performance metrics, such as latency, throughput, and horizontal scalability.
Large-scale projects now prioritize the consolidation of fragmented S3 installations into centralized services. Security has become a critical architectural requirement, with increasing demand for WORM modes, data replication, and integration with corporate identity systems.
The choice between cloud and local storage depends on data volume and regulatory needs. K2Tech notes that companies often begin comparing the total cost of ownership for on-premises infrastructure versus cloud services once data volumes reach approximately 300 TB.
