Users of GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards can bypass standard memory frequency limits using the mVolt+ overclocking utility. One enthusiast successfully overclocked the GDDR7 memory on an RTX 5070 Ti from the stock 28 Gbps per pin to 39 Gbps per pin.
This 39% increase in memory speed raised the bandwidth from 896 GB/s to 1248 GB/s. The test was conducted using Samsung memory modules, noting that overclocking potential varies depending on the specific manufacturer of the chips.
In Cyberpunk 2077, the 5500 MHz frequency increase resulted in a gain of approximately 5 to 6 frames per second. The modest performance boost is attributed to the fact that the RTX 5070 Ti does not suffer from memory bandwidth limitations under normal conditions.
The GDDR7 standard includes built-in ECC error correction, which may mitigate performance gains if the overclocking leads to an increased number of memory errors. The enthusiast did not perform stability tests on the system following the overclocking procedure.
