Rostelecom CEO Mikhail Oseevsky highlighted critical challenges facing Russian data centers, specifically citing physical security threats and a severe shortage of available power capacity in major cities. He noted that current energy infrastructure in large urban centers is insufficient to support further development of data processing facilities.
To address the energy deficit, the company plans to shift its strategy toward decentralized data center locations and improved energy efficiency. Oseevsky stated that gas-based power generation will serve as a primary solution, leveraging Russia's domestic gas reserves to provide a direct energy supply for these facilities.
Looking toward the future, the company anticipates integrating compact nuclear reactors to power its data infrastructure. Oseevsky expressed confidence in this transition, emphasizing Russia's leadership in nuclear technology as a key factor in enabling the deployment of such advanced power solutions for the industry.
