Rivian is deploying RivianOS 2, version 2026.31, for R1 and R2 vehicles. This update unifies the software stack across all models, including first-generation R1s, second-generation R1s, and the R2. While the foundation is common, hardware limitations mean Gen 1 R1s use Unreal Engine 4, whereas R2 and Gen 2 R1s utilize Unreal Engine 5 for 3D visualizations.
The user interface has been redesigned with a new vertical status bar and a rebuilt 'Settings 2' menu featuring universal search and context-aware controls. Users can now position the quick controls and media player on either side of the display.
Navigation is enhanced with Real-Time Route Alerts via Google Maps, integrating police and speed-camera alerts based on data from local authorities, third-party sources, and community contributions.
Two new features are available via the Connect+ subscription, priced at $14.99 per month or $149.99 per year. These include a dedicated weather app providing 10-day forecasts and air quality data, as well as Mobile Live Trips for managing active trips via the phone app.
The update introduces Rivian Unified Intelligence, an AI layer powering the 'Hey Rivian' assistant. R2 and Gen 2 R1 models use hybrid edge compute for low-latency processing, while all R1 generations receive expanded cloud-assisted voice capabilities.
Owners now have expanded data privacy controls across all vehicle generations, allowing them to toggle hotword wake-words, limit location sharing, and manage driver-profile data.
