According to hardware leaker KeplerL2, the cost of memory and NAND flash storage for the upcoming PlayStation 6 exceeds $680. This figure does not account for the APU, cooling system, power supply, or other components.
The estimated total bill of materials for the console has risen significantly over the year. In March, the estimate stood at $760, which increased to approximately $960 by July.
The price surge is attributed to high demand for DRAM and NAND flash from AI data centers, which has driven up costs across the industry. Sony reportedly considered reducing memory capacity to manage expenses.
Current rumors suggest the PS6 will feature GDDR7 memory with a 160-bit bus, potentially offering up to 40GB of capacity, with 30GB being a more likely configuration.
While Sony has not released official pricing, analysts suggest the retail price could reach $1,000, significantly higher than the PS5 Pro, if memory costs remain at current levels.
