Riot Games co-founder Mark Merrill has officially confirmed that the development of the League of Legends MMO project is ongoing. The company continues to work on the title, refuting rumors about its cancellation.

Merrill noted that the team refers to the project as the Holy Grail, which serves as a key motivator for the developers. He emphasized that maintaining such a large-scale project is challenging but expressed optimism about its future.

The project was first announced in August 2021. Over the past five years, the game has undergone significant changes, including a complete development reboot and several departures of key staff members.

Concerns regarding the project's status arose after Riot Games announced the end of active development for its fighting game 2XKO due to insufficient player interest. This led to speculation about the fate of other spin-off titles.
