Individual Bitcoin holders shifted from net sellers to aggressive buyers in the third quarter of 2026. According to River Financial, retail and unidentified holders accumulated over 107,000 BTC during this period, marking the fastest pace of retail accumulation in years.

This trend reverses the selling activity observed in the first half of 2026, when individuals sold approximately 140,000 BTC. In the second quarter alone, retail holders offloaded about 78,000 BTC, while businesses added roughly 115,000 BTC to their treasuries.

Data from River Financial highlights the activity of mid-tier wallets, known as dolphin addresses, which hold between 100 and 1,000 BTC. Since mid-July 2026, these holders have accumulated over 113,000 BTC, representing a value of more than $9 billion.

As of the report dated September 18, 2026, Bitcoin was trading in the mid-$80,000 range. Analysts suggest that the current accumulation pace could lead individual holders to reach a net positive balance for the year before the fourth quarter concludes.
