The B20 is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine designed for HEVs, PHEVs, and range-extender EVs. It delivers between 188 and 248 hp and torque from 221 to 280 lb-ft, with a total weight of 287 lbs.
The engine features an IPX8 waterproof rating, allowing it to operate while submerged in up to 42 inches (1.1 m) of water. This is achieved through sealed electrical components, sensors, and a dedicated seal between the engine and transmission.
An integrated control system automatically adjusts throttle response or limits power when the engine detects it is underwater. On land, the B20 can handle 100 percent grades, which corresponds to a 45-degree incline.
The Miller-cycle engine utilizes direct injection, specialized pistons, and high-tumble intake ports to reach a thermal efficiency of 48.4 percent. It also includes an active dual-cooling system for high-load situations.
The B20 has already been integrated into the Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 for the Chinese market, where it is paired with a three-speed hybrid transmission as part of a plug-in hybrid system.
