The open-source tool RemoveMacAI allows users to disable Apple Intelligence features on macOS 27 and remove locally stored AI models. By installing configuration profiles, the utility stops the system from managing model resources and redirects future download requests to a local null port, preventing automatic re-installation.

The tool is designed to address storage constraints on Mac devices, particularly those with 256GB drives. While Apple documentation suggests Apple Intelligence requires approximately 14GB of space, user reports indicate that actual storage usage can exceed 20GB or even 27GB on some systems.

Removing these models disables several AI-integrated features, including the updated Siri capabilities, writing tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, ChatGPT integration, smart replies, and predictive code completion in Xcode. However, basic system voice input remains functional after the removal.

The developer notes that the tool does not modify core system files or require disabling System Integrity Protection. While currently functional on macOS 27.0.1, the underlying configuration mechanisms were marked as deprecated in macOS 26.4, meaning the tool may lose effectiveness in future system updates.
