Users of Windows Server have reported issues with Remote Desktop Services following the installation of Microsoft's September cumulative updates. According to reports, the problem affects Windows Server 2019, 2022, and 2025 versions after applying specific patches.
The identified updates causing the malfunctions are KB5122876 for Windows Server 2019, KB5122882 for Windows Server 2022, and KB5122871 for Windows Server 2025. Administrators noted that the service typically functions for several hours before failures occur.
Reported symptoms include failed connection attempts, where new Remote Desktop Protocol sessions hang and eventually time out. Additionally, existing sessions may fail to disconnect or log out properly, leading to service crashes after the first user logs out.
