The development budget for the game The Blood of Dawnwalker reached $40 million, according to a Bloomberg report. Rebel Wolves director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz self-funded the initial prototype phase in 2022 before NetEase joined as an investor by the end of that year.
NetEase acquired a 26% stake in the studio to provide the necessary funding. While the team initially intended to limit the headcount to 90 employees, the studio expanded to approximately 160 people. Full-scale production commenced toward the end of 2023 following a year of hiring.
Bandai Namco serves as the publisher for the title. The reported budget covers development costs only, excluding marketing and publishing expenses. The studio opted for a September release instead of June to manage workloads and avoid overtime.
The game achieved sales of over 1 million copies within the first few days after launch. Following this performance, Rebel Wolves has begun the recruitment process for a sequel to the project.
