Developer Ahmed Arif has successfully integrated the open-source ReactOS project with the FEX emulator to enable the execution of x64 Windows applications on ARM64 hardware. This development marks a significant milestone for the project, which aims to maintain binary compatibility with Windows drivers and software.
The implementation was demonstrated using the game Super Mario 64 running within the ARM64 environment. Beyond the emulator integration, the project has benefited from ongoing updates to the core ReactOS codebase, which has improved overall support for the ARM architecture.
In addition to the software integration, Arif has expanded hardware compatibility for ReactOS. He successfully ran the operating system on a Raspberry Pi 3, utilizing custom drivers for Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity. This follows his previous work in porting the system to the Raspberry Pi 5.
