Raoul Pal, co-founder of Real Vision, argues that Bitcoin serves as a superior long-term hedge against currency debasement compared to gold. During an interview on the Wolf Financial Show, he explained that central bank money supply expansion reduces fiat currency value by approximately 8% annually, while wages typically grow by only 3%.

Pal characterizes debasement as the primary driver of rising asset prices and notes that it erodes savings over time. He suggests that while gold acts as base money, it lacks the compounding potential of Bitcoin. According to Pal, Bitcoin functions as digital gold with similar scarcity but benefits from being at an earlier stage of its adoption curve.

The analyst identifies cryptocurrency and technology stocks as the only asset classes that consistently outperform the rate of debasement. He cites historical data showing that the Nasdaq has delivered an annual return of roughly 19% over the past 15 years, while crypto assets have compounded between 45% and 110% annually.

In contrast, Pal observes that traditional assets like gold and real estate generally track the debasement rate rather than exceeding it. As of recent data, Bitcoin was trading near $75 900, reflecting a 2% decline over the previous day. Investors continue to monitor how gold's performance might influence asset allocation strategies through 2026.
