Hardware Unboxed conducted a comparative analysis of the Radeon RX 9070 XT and the GeForce RTX 5090. The testing utilized the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which is currently one of the fastest gaming processors available. The goal was to determine if the AMD flagship could outperform the Nvidia card in specific scenarios.

In an average of 11 games, the AMD card shows lower performance than the Nvidia flagship. However, the performance gap narrows significantly when resolution is reduced and upscalers are applied. The study highlights that Nvidia cards are traditionally more CPU-dependent, which influences the results in processor-intensive titles.

In Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2, the performance difference varies by settings. At native 4K, the gap is nearly twofold, while at 1440p with balanced upscaling, the RX 9070 XT leads by 7%. When game settings are reduced to minimum, the AMD card maintains its lead even at native 1440p resolution.

The findings suggest that as CPU load increases, the performance disparity between the two graphics cards decreases. While the RTX 5090 remains superior in the majority of gaming scenarios, the test confirms that specific conditions allow the Radeon RX 9070 XT to surpass the Nvidia flagship.
