The new QSW-M5218 series from QNAP includes two models: the standard QSW-M5218-6F12T and the QSW-M5218P-6F12T, which supports Power over Ethernet. These L3 Lite managed switches are designed for small and medium-sized businesses that require high-speed infrastructure, particularly for AV over IP transmission.
Each unit features twelve 10GbE RJ45 ports and six 25GbE SFP28 uplink ports. The hardware provides a total switching capacity of up to 540 Gbps. The 25GbE interfaces offer 2.5 times the bandwidth of standard 10G uplinks, allowing for efficient traffic aggregation into the enterprise core network.
The series supports L3 Lite routing, MC-LAG high availability, and IEEE 1588v2 PTP time synchronization. These features aim to resolve bandwidth bottlenecks in environments using virtualization servers and high-speed NAS devices. The switches allow the reuse of existing Cat 6a cabling, simplifying the transition to higher network speeds.
