Developer Sword has released updates for the PS5SX2 emulator, designed specifically for jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles. The latest versions, v2.01 and v2.02, introduce support for physical PlayStation 2 game discs. The emulator allows games to run at up to 6x resolution.

The software operates by copying game data from the inserted disc onto the console's internal storage before launching the title. Because the PS5 optical drive is limited to Blu-ray and DVD formats, it cannot read PS2 games released on CD media.

The v2.02 update includes an experimental feature that enables users to connect external USB DVD or Blu-ray drives to read physical discs, which is particularly useful for owners of the digital-only PS5 model. Sword also plans to bring similar physical disc support to the PS5 port of the RPCS3 emulator for PS3 games.
