Developer Sword has released PS5SX2, a native port of the PCSX2 emulator for the PlayStation 5. The software utilizes the console's custom Zen 2 chip for recompiling and rendering, moving away from streaming methods used in previous hacks.
The emulator supports physical PlayStation 2 game discs via internal and external USB drives, alongside formats like ISO, CHD, CSO, and ZSO. It is compatible with discs from all regions, though it cannot read CD-based games due to the console's hardware limitations.
PS5SX2 includes 4K upscaling, support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, and compatibility with .pnach patch files to enable widescreen or 60 FPS modes. Additional features include keyboard and mouse support, online play, and virtual memory cards up to 64MB.
Users can manage graphics, audio, and gameplay settings via a smartphone or tablet. Following the release of PS5SX2, the developer confirmed that support for PlayStation 3 discs is currently in development for a future port of RPCS3.
