The developer created a custom system to receive daily sleep reports printed on paper, aiming to reduce smartphone usage immediately after waking up. The setup uses a Star SP700 dot-matrix printer, which serves as a loud alarm clock, connected to a 2010 Mac mini.

The system architecture consists of several services running on a VPS, including a Telegram bot for scheduling, a service to fetch data from the WHOOP API, and a local LLM to generate brief summaries. A dedicated gateway service manages communication between the server and the Mac mini.

To optimize energy and noise, the Mac mini remains in sleep mode most of the time. A wakeplanner process runs at 03:55 to fetch the scheduled wake-up time and updates the macOS power management settings via pmset to ensure the computer wakes up 20 minutes before the alarm.

The user also developed a custom iOS application, MorningStation, and a widget for the StandBy mode to manage wake-up times. The system uses Nginx for TLS and reverse proxying, ensuring that the hardware only executes commands received from the server.
