Porsche has officially confirmed ongoing discussions with Audi regarding the production location for the next-generation A8 flagship sedan. While no final agreement has been reached, the companies are currently evaluating various manufacturing scenarios for the vehicle.

Reports from the German newspaper Heilbronner Stimme suggest that the Leipzig plant could become the production site for the new A8 as early as 2030. This facility currently manufactures the Porsche Panamera and Macan models and is equipped to handle multiple powertrain types, including internal combustion, hybrid, and electric configurations.

The potential strategy involves utilizing a shared platform with the next-generation Porsche Panamera. By integrating the development of the Audi flagship with Porsche's luxury sedan architecture, the Volkswagen Group aims to optimize development costs amid current budget constraints.

The future of the A8 has remained uncertain following low sales volumes for the current model and its S8 variant in Europe, which led Audi to stop accepting new orders. Previous production plans for the successor have been revised multiple times as the company balanced investment against market demand.
