Porsche has resumed testing of the electric 718 Boxster, with recent spy shots revealing the vehicle with minimal camouflage. The prototype features vertical active cooling slats in the front grille, similar to the 911 GTS and Turbo models, and fabric loop-style door handles.
The electric Boxster will be available with a standard single-motor rear-wheel-drive configuration. Higher-end versions are expected to feature a dual-motor setup, marking the first all-wheel-drive option for the model. Reports suggest these variants could deliver up to 604 hp.
The vehicle utilizes a T-shaped battery pack positioned in the transmission tunnel and behind the seats to maintain a low floor and mimic the weight distribution of mid-engined combustion cars. The platform is shared with an upcoming Audi model.
Porsche plans to launch the electric Boxster and Cayman in 2027. Due to shifting market demand, the company intends to introduce combustion-powered versions of these models a few years after the initial electric release.
