Founded in 2017, Petra Power develops solid oxide fuel cells designed to convert fuels like natural gas into electricity without combustion. The company claims its ceramic devices offer higher efficiency, lower fuel costs, and reduced emissions compared to traditional power generation methods.
The startup is currently targeting two primary sectors: data centers and defense applications. For data centers, the company is engaging with infrastructure providers and aims for initial deployments by 2028, with full-scale production targeted for 2029.
In the defense sector, the fuel cells are intended to provide auxiliary power for land vehicles. The technology is currently in the testing phase with the government. Petra Power has secured nearly $9 million in contracts from the Department of Defense.
The company operates with a team of approximately 15 employees. Petra Power was recently selected for the TechCrunch Startup Battlefield 200 program.
