Mercedes-AMG has introduced the Spezialanfertigung CLE 646, a limited-edition coupe featuring a new 4.0-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine. The vehicle produces 637 hp and 850 Nm of torque, achieving a top speed of 310 km/h. Production is strictly capped at 30 units, with reports suggesting a price tag of $1 million per vehicle.

The Ford Mustang GTD serves as a performance counterpart, powered by a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 delivering 815 hp and 900 Nm. Ford limits production to 1,700 units, with a base price of approximately $327,000, which can exceed $400,000 with the optional Performance Pack. The GTD recorded a Nurburgring lap time of 6:40.835.

Technical differences between the two include weight distribution and aerodynamics. The Mustang GTD features a rear-mounted eight-speed dual-clutch transmission for a 50:50 weight balance and generates up to 885 kg of downforce. In contrast, the AMG CLE 646 retains a front-mounted transmission and produces a maximum of 250 kg of downforce.

Both manufacturers have stripped the interiors of these models to reduce weight, removing rear seats and sound insulation in favor of racing components. While the AMG uses carbon door panels and bucket seats, the Ford incorporates Recaro seats and 3D-printed titanium shift paddles. Both vehicles utilize base chassis architectures from their respective standard production lines.
