The state of Pennsylvania is allocating $11 million to develop electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the Central PA region. This initiative covers 26 counties, including Bedford, Blair, Bradford, and others, with the application window for funding remaining open until 12 March 2027.

The project is part of the third phase of the Community Charging scheme, supported by the federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. Local transportation planning agencies will prioritize investment areas, while the Department of Transportation assists organizations in finding project partners.

To date, 50 NEVI-funded charging hubs are operational in Pennsylvania, with 41 additional sites currently in development. Since the launch of the first station in December 2023, these chargers have facilitated over 146,000 sessions and prevented more than 3,700 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

This funding follows a broader state effort that previously allocated $100 million in federal funds to expand charging networks beyond major corridors. The state continues to grow its infrastructure following earlier legal disputes regarding the federal funding freeze, which previously impacted project timelines.
