PayPal has successfully completed a pilot program using its native PYUSD stablecoin to settle over $1 billion in intercompany dividend payments. The transfers between the company’s US and international subsidiaries were completed in two hours, significantly reducing settlement times that previously took several days.
The process involved direct transfers between dedicated on-chain wallets, bypassing traditional banking settlement windows across three continents. The initiative was managed by a small treasury team in collaboration with the company’s legal and accounting departments as part of a broader modernization strategy.
The project received industry recognition, securing both the Overall Winner title and the Best in Class Treasury Solution award at the 2026 Adam Smith Awards. PayPal emphasizes that stablecoin rails are intended to function alongside traditional banking methods rather than replace them entirely.
The total supply of PYUSD, which is fully backed by reserves and pegged to the US dollar, has now exceeded $3 billion. The token is currently available in approximately 70 markets and supports integrations across multiple blockchain networks.
