PayPal has halted the sale of its venture capital portfolio after receiving offers deemed too low. The company previously decided to wind down its corporate venture capital arm, PayPal Ventures, as part of a broader organizational restructuring announced in April.
The portfolio includes stakes in companies such as the shopping application Tabby and the cryptocurrency platform Anchorage. PayPal had been exploring strategic options for its venture arm since June, including the potential sale of positions on the secondary market.
The restructuring plan involves transitioning to a three-business operating model focused on checkout solutions, consumer financial services, and payment services combined with cryptocurrency. CEO Enrique Lores stated that these changes aim to simplify operations and accelerate growth.
CFO and COO Jamie Miller noted that the company is currently focused on removing organizational duplication and layers. This phase of the turnaround plan is expected to continue over the next 12 to 18 months, following the end of buyout speculation involving Advent International and Stripe.
