San Francisco-based R&D firm Otherlab has launched the Lightfoot, a two-seat electric scooter featuring integrated solar panels. The vehicle is designed for short urban trips and is now available for order, with the first 100 Launch Edition units priced at $4,495 each. Customers must place a refundable $100 deposit to secure a reservation.
The scooter is equipped with two 120W solar panels, providing a total of 240W. This system can generate up to 18 miles of range per day under optimal conditions. The vehicle features a 52V, 1,560Wh battery that offers a total range of up to 37 miles. It can also be charged via a standard wall outlet using an onboard 230W charger, which takes approximately four hours for a full charge.
Performance is driven by two 750W nominal geared hub motors, peaking at 1,000W each, delivering 160 Nm of combined torque. The Lightfoot is limited to a top speed of just under 20 mph. It includes full suspension, hydraulic disc brakes, and a 45-liter lockable, weatherproof cargo compartment capable of holding three grocery bags.
Weighing 141 lb, the scooter is designed to accommodate two riders. Additional features include a 2,000-lumen headlight, a 120 dB horn, a Bluetooth-enabled display, and regenerative braking. Otherlab positions the Lightfoot as a micromobility solution for bike lanes and city streets that does not require a license or registration, though local regulations may vary.
