The Chilean cryptocurrency exchange Orionx is closing permanently following a forensic audit that revealed a custody shortfall exceeding $7 million. The investigation identified that customer assets were transferred to external wallets between 2018 and 2021. The exchange has suspended withdrawals and filed a criminal complaint against co-founders Roberto Zibert and Joaquín Díaz.
Tether, which led the Series A funding round for Orionx in June 2025, is now associated with the fallout of the exchange. Meanwhile, in Poland, lawmakers failed to override President Karol Nawrocki’s veto on new crypto legislation. The Sejm vote resulted in 241 votes in favor and 198 against, failing to reach the necessary three-fifths majority required to overturn the decision.
The legislative setback in Poland coincides with an expanding investigation into the collapsed exchange Zondacrypto. Its operator, BB Trade Estonia, filed for bankruptcy in August. Polish prosecutors are currently examining allegations of fraud and money laundering, including claims that the exchange attempted to influence politicians linked to the previous government.
In the United States, the National Sheriffs’ Association has shifted its stance on the CLARITY Act to neutral ahead of a Senate vote. The organization previously opposed the bill due to concerns regarding crypto mixers and law enforcement tracing capabilities. The House passed the act in July 2025, and Senate Majority Leader John Thune has scheduled a cloture vote for September 15.
