Orion has launched an AI-enabled mattress pad priced at $2,195. The system functions as a cooling mattress pad that connects to a control tower, which requires water to operate. Users can manage the device via a mobile app, which also tracks sleep data, including REM cycles and wake-up frequency.
The device automatically adjusts bed temperature based on the user's sleep schedule, cooling down at bedtime and returning to room temperature in the morning. The system supports dual-zone cooling for couples. Orion founder Harry Gestetner, who previously sold his company Fanfix for an estimated $65 million, developed the product.
The company is currently working on a more affordable version of the mattress pad, aiming for a price point of $500. Gestetner compared the current product to the Tesla Roadster, with future models intended to serve as a more accessible offering similar to the Model 3. The current price is lower than the $3,000 model offered by competitor Eight Sleep.
The product requires minimal maintenance, as the water supply in the control tower does not need frequent refilling. While the system processes sleep data via the cloud, the company claims to prioritize security. However, the founder acknowledges that the current high price point limits the product's reach to a specific consumer segment.
