The developer ZiZc3 has ported the Xemu emulator to the PlayStation 5, allowing it to run as a native application on jailbroken consoles. The project, named XPSemu, utilizes the open-source RADV Vulkan driver to interface with the PS5 AMD GPU.
The emulator includes a custom dashboard, support for per-game settings, cover art, and performance overlays. It also features specific CPU optimizations tailored for the Zen 2 processor architecture found in the PS5.
Performance testing shows that the emulated Xbox CPU acts as a bottleneck, with usage reaching 85-97 percent. In Halo 2, the emulator achieves 51-60 FPS in the opening and 36-50 FPS during gameplay with a 60 FPS patch.
The project is currently in a testing phase, with the developer planning to add further improvements and support for ISO files. Users can report bugs and share feedback via a dedicated Discord server.
The PS5 library of emulators continues to grow, now including support for Nintendo Switch, Wii U, 3DS, and various titles via RetroArch. Simultaneously, developers are working on Xbox 360 and PS5 Proton emulation projects.
