The DAO of the Solana-based decentralized exchange Orca has introduced a proposal titled 'Resourcing Orca for Its Next Phase.' The plan, endorsed by the Governance Council on September 24, 2026, and published on September 29, 2026, outlines the acquisition of an unnamed DeFi protocol to expand credit and yield offerings.
The proposal suggests restructuring fee distribution: 10% for xORCA staking rewards, 10% for team-managed buybacks, and 80% for operations. Additionally, the plan involves transferring approximately 14.2 million ORCA tokens, representing 19.8% of the total supply, and 70,000 SOL into a new team-controlled Strategic Account.
Structural changes include the dissolution of the current Governance Council. The acquisition is expected to increase Orca's Total Value Locked by approximately 50%. Community feedback has raised concerns regarding the reduction in staking rewards and the centralization of power within the team.
Following the announcement, the ORCA token price rose by 84%. Recent trading activity for the token has fluctuated between $2.90 and $3.15. Voting on the proposal is scheduled to conclude on October 10, 2026.
