Oracle has committed to covering nearly $300 million in rising fuel costs for the Point Beach nuclear power plant in Wisconsin. This initiative aims to shield over 1 million residential customers from electricity rate hikes associated with the facility's operations.

The agreement is currently pending approval from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. Point Beach is the state's only operational nuclear power plant, which previously entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement with the local utility provider, We Energies.

This commitment is part of Oracle's Project Lighthouse, a large-scale data center development in Port Washington. The company intends to fully fund the facility's energy costs to prevent any financial burden on local residents.

The project is projected to contribute over $11 billion to the local economy. It is expected to generate more than 4,000 construction jobs over a three-year period and provide 1,000 permanent positions upon completion.

Wisconsin faces a projected 40% increase in peak electricity demand over the next 5 years, driven largely by new data centers in Port Washington, Mount Pleasant, and Beaver Dam. Oracle's involvement provides a buffer against potential price volatility.
